Feel the Burn

This author is hot

In David Sedaris' story "A Plague of Tics," the satirist relates his childhood struggles with Tourette syndrome and his compulsion to lick light switches. These tics, he asserts, were partially cured when he took up smoking. In Sedaris' humorous new collection of essays, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, readers get details about a trip the author took to Tokyo in an effort to lick the nicotine habit. Sedaris will read excerpts from his most recent work at 7 p.m. at Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue). Space is limited to the first 150 "Friends of Left Bank Books" (membership starts at $35) who purchase When You Are Engulfed in Flames from the bookshop. For those unable to gain entry, the reading will also be broadcast outside of the store, with a book-signing slated for 8 p.m. For more information call 314-367-6731 or visit www.left-bank.com.
