Wye Oak

9 p.m. Monday, June 16. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue

Like several other indie-rock boy-girl duos, Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack of Wye Oak write and perform intimate, pretty songs that showcase an intuitive back-and-forth between the performers. But where Brightblack Morning Light opts for rustic psychedelia and Beach House excels at trippy introspection, Wye Oak moves from quiet, fingerpicked folk songs to expansive, room-filling bedroom symphonies. The band released If Children on Merge Records this year, and the album refuses to settle into one mode by inserting elements of folk, shoegaze and post-rock. "I Don't Feel Young" operates off of Phil Spector's famous drumbeat while a wall of guitars attempts to swallow the pair's harmonized vocals; likewise, as a listener, it's hard not to become enveloped in the haze. Just how two people can make such a glorious noise is unclear, but it's worth a trip to Off Broadway to find out.
