Gangjin, South Korea, is famous for the beautiful celadon ceramics that have been created in the region since the beginnings of the Goryeo Dynasty in 918 AD – that’s more than a thousand years of sustained brilliance. Millennium Face, a touring exhibition featuring 60 works of Gangjin celadon, has made stops in Washington, D.C., New York and Chicago, and now it visits the Third Degree Glass Factory (5200 Delmar Boulevard; 314-367-4527 or www.stlglass.com). From Tuesday, June 24, through Wednesday, July 2, you can admire the lustrous greens and ethereal grace of contemporary and traditional celadon pieces in shapes as whimsical as pumpkin-inspired pitchers and as serene as meditating images of the Buddha. Two of the items are so culturally and artistically perfect that they’ve been designated national treasures by the South Korean government – come on, when are you going to have a chance to see this again? Third Degree is open every day except Monday; Millennium Face closes with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, with a demonstration of the celadon process.
