On the Topic of St. Louis

Writers work it out

Sometimes finding a suitable topic is the most difficult part of writing. University of Missouri-St. Louis MFA writer-in-residence Joy Katz circumvented that issue by charging the poets and writers of the UMSL Graduate Writers' Association with writing specifically about St. Louis. During an all-day writing session, Andrew Pryor, Maria Balogh (pictured), David Dandridge, Jaime R. Wood and Joy Katz examined St. Louis through the lens of poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction, and now, after two weeks of refining their work, they present the results at 7 p.m. this evening at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary (3100 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; www.hoffmanlachancefineart.com or 314-960-5322 or) during the 6-29 Reading. What they uncovered about St. Louis may surprise you. Admission is free.
