The Big Sleep

Everyone is familiar with the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. But just how familiar are you? Did you know that "Prince Charming" has a name? (He's "Florimund.") How 'bout the name of the witch who casts the spell on Princess Aurora, a.k.a., Sleeping Beauty? Trick question: She's a spiteful fairy, not a witch, and her name is Carabosse, which sounds like a supermodel name if there ever was one. See? Lots to brush up on here. So be sure to enjoy one of the Saint Louis Ballet's five performances of Tchaikovsky's eternally popular ballet, The Sleeping Beauty. Good and evil duke it out — in pointe shoes, no less — for the life of Aurora at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday (June 26 through 29) at the Edison Theatre on the Washington University campus (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.stlouisballet.org). Tickets are $22 to $36. PHOTO BY CHRISTIAN CUDNIK
