The McPike Mansion awaits

By Ms. Day

Published on July 02, 2008

Ms. Day isn't afraid to admit it: She believes in ghosts. And that's why she'll only be touring the McPike Mansion (2018 Alby Street, Alton, Illinois) during the daylight hours. See, Day can tell just by looking at the old house that it's full to the rooftop with specters, and even though these ghosts surely know no time restrictions, their antics just won't be as terrifying under the light of the sun. To join Day in learning about the manse, experimenting with dowsing rods, surviving a dark-room session in the wine cellar and touring the grounds and the crypt (eeps!), bring along $20 and arrive at 3 p.m. (kids' admission costs $5 to $10). And if you're a lot braver than Day, arrive at 8 p.m. with your cash in hand for the nighttime tour. For more information about the house and these and other events (and to register to tour), call 618-462-3348 or visit www.mcpikemansion.com.
