Art's on the Menu

Eat up!

Did Marie Antoinette actually say, "Let them eat cake," about France's starving peasantry? Perhaps. But the city of Maplewood has most assuredly declaimed "Let Them Eat Art" to the population of St. Louis, and Maplewudlians absolutely mean it. From 6 to 11 p.m. in downtown Maplewood (7300 Manchester Road), more than 40 participating businesses host musicians and artists doing their respective things; that means you can enjoy the ceramics wonderments of Carmelita Nuñez (at Acero), admire Jessi Cerutti's silk-screened shirts (at Maven) or swoon over Jeffrey Sass' heroic robot paintings (at Schlafly Bottleworks). You can also bask in the dulcet tones drawn forth by the fingers of harpist Terri Langerak or revel in the pomp and power of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra at the Focal Point. Or just go bowling at Saratoga Lanes — if it's in Maplewood, it's happening. All this, plus a top-spinner, a dream-interpreter and an ice-cream truck that shoots fire. And admission is free. If you can find a piece of cake somewhere, it'll be the perfect evening.
