Artists fling wide their doors this weekend

Most St. Louis barbecues feature meats slathered in Maull’s barbecue sauce and the sounds of a Cardinals game blaring from a nearby radio. There is one annual barbecue, however, where conversation turns away from Lohse’s curveball and toward matters of aesthetics. The Starving Artists Barbecue takes place at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.contemporarystl.org) from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. This dinnertime event wraps up the third annual Open Studios weekend, during which folks have the chance to visit the working spaces of more than 100 local artists. The self-guided tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (July 19 and 20), and admission is free. For more information, to purchase tickets for the supper ($15) and to print out a map of the studios’ locations, visit www.openstudiosonline.org.
