Lend a Helping Tummy

You eat, kids benefit

In 1849 in St. Louis, many children were orphaned due to a several-block fire and a cholera outbreak. A year later, St. Vincent Home for Children was founded. Times certainly have changed since then. You don't see cholera epidemics like you used to, for starters. Plus, St. Vincent Home has evolved from being an orphanage to a residential treatment center for kids who have been abused and/or neglected. Yet even through all of these changes, one thing has remained the same: There are little ones in our community who need us. Thanks to Kookin' for Kids, helping them is easy. This benefit for St. Vincent Home is held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). All kinds of celebrities await you there — including Betsey Bruce, Elliott Davis and Bill McClellan — to serve up delicious eats from Fitz's American Grill & Bottling Works, Lampert's Plush Pig Barbecue, LoRusso's Cucina and other yummy local eateries. Tickets to this food fest cost $75 per person and must be purchased by Friday, August 22. Visit www.saintvincenthome.org for more information and to secure your spot.
