Experiencing Olympic fatigue? Tired of the over-the-top pageantry, the breathless commentary, the chiseled abs of the American swim team (just kidding — no one ever gets tired of that)? Cast your weary eyes upon an entirely different kind of showmanship: the Gateway Regional Rodeo. This event, sponsored by the Gateway Gay Rodeo Association, brings together talented cowboys and cowgirls for rodeo-ing beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday (August 30 and 31). So grab your friends, and drive out to the National Equestrian Center (6880 Lake Saint Louis Boulevard, Lake St. Louis). In addition to the roping and riding, you can catch a performance by the Well Hungarians on Saturday and a set by the Fairchild Band on Sunday. Sunday also brings the Community Goat-Dressing event, where brave souls put underwear on a goat for a $500 prize to the charity of their choice (and all of the fame that comes with putting underwear on a goat). Admission to the rodeo costs $15 (or $25 for a two-day pass); call 314-795-7744 or visit www.gwgra.com for more information and a complete schedule.
