Dazz Band

3 p.m. Saturday, September 13, as part of 95.5 FM's FoxyFest. Langenberg Field, Forest Park.

Coming out of Cleveland, Ohio, in the late '70s, the Dazz Band worked the same musical vein that had yielded much gold earlier in the decade for other self-contained funk bands — like cross-state neighbors the Ohio Players, along with Earth, Wind & Fire, and the Commodores. They first scored with the ballad "Invitation To Love" in 1981, then hit the jackpot a year later with the huge dance floor smash "Let It Whip." After its commercial success faded out at the end of the '80s, the Dazz Band's career was revived in the mid-'90s thanks to a resurgence of interest in old-school funk and soul. Recent touring versions of the group have included two key original members: bandleader/saxophonist Bobby Harris and singer, guitarist and songwriter Michael Calhoun.
