You want to get your socks blown off this weekend? Get thee to Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1700 or www.slso.org) for the opening weekend of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra's 2008 season. Conductor David Robertson leads an excursion to mysterious realms with John Adams' Guide to Strange Places, takes us through the haunting and affecting terrain of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, and then tears the roof off with Rachmaninoff's virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 3, with Yefim Bronfman providing the necessary piano pyrotechnics. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (September 26 and 27), and tickets are $19 to $105.
