Strange Days

They’re folkin’ awesome!

If you've ever perused Etsy, an online-only marketplace for DIYers, you are already familiar with the types of goods that will be up for grabs at the Strange Folk Festival. This indie arts-and-crafts fair, basically an extension of handmade heaven, features 120 vendors, which ensures that there won't be a shortage of out-of-the-ordinary merchandise. Check out everything from Archaic Mementos' delicate jewelry to Zazi Baby's infant carriers (and Pillow Monsters' dolls, like the one pictured) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday (September 27 and 28) at O'Fallon Community Park (401 East Fifth Street, O'Fallon, Illinois; www.strangefolkfestival.com). In addition to shopping, fairgoers can snack on gyros, barbecue and vegetarian eats; listen to live music; and snuggle with a fuzzy animal at the alpaca petting zoo. Admission to this folksy festival is free.
Sat., Sept. 27; Sun., Sept. 28, 2008
