Let's do this by the numbers

If you've always suspected you'd make a great painter if you just had the proper inspiration, the Saint Louis City Open Studios & Gallery's Paint by Numbers benefit is either going to prove your right or wreck your artistic delusions of grandeur. Canvases with outlines of famous paintings already marked out and numbered await you at Mad Art (2727 South 12th Street; 314-865-0060 or www.scosag.org) this evening. All you need to do is match the appropriate color to the appropriate number — i.e., "paint them by number" — and presto! instant masterpiece. To further engorge your ego, the completed paintings are silent auctioned off during the night, so you can gauge how well you're doing by how much your paintings are worth — just like Van Gogh. Wait, that's a bad example. Tickets are $5 to $10; paints, brushes and snacks are provided, and there will be a cash bar. Paint by Numbers begins at 7 p.m., and all proceeds benefit SCOSAG's art programs.
