Life in St. Louis
Life experience is perhaps the best teacher, and we all can learn a lot from those who have a few more years than we do under our belts. Author Gail Milissa Grant knows this. In her book At the Elbows of My Elders: One Family's Journey Toward Civil Rights, she recounts stories from her childhood growing up in south St. Louis before and during the civil-rights movement and gives readers a peak into her family's past as well. The memoir offers a view of segregated St. Louis many have never experienced and sheds some light on how difficult life could be.
