This Friday through Sunday (October 24 through 26), Kitbuilders magazine presents Monstrous Weekend, a world-class horror convention at the Marriott-St. Louis Airport (10700 Pear Tree Lane). The convention boasts a wide array of memorabilia dealers, seminars and contests, as well as an impressive roster of guests, including a reunion of the Night of the Living Dead cast — and director George Romero — in honor of the film's 40th anniversary. Romero's also participating in a film-screening and panel discussion on Saturday. Other scheduled guests include makeup/effects legend Tom Savini, genre icons Adrienne Barbeau (Swamp Thing, Creepshow, The Fog), Dee Wallace (The Hills Have Eyes, The Howling, Cujo) and Tura Satana, who discusses and screens Russ Meyer's cult classic, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! A costume contest, several horror-themed bands and displays of some amazingly detailed models (the Bobs of Dullam/Causey, www.dullam-causey.com, have a special exhibit of their mind-blowing, scratch-built work planned) take place throughout Monstrous Weekend. Single-day passes start at $20, and multiple-day admission bundles are available, including a package that provides a shuttle-bus run to the Darkness haunted house. Go to www.kitbuildersmagazine.com for more details, prices and updates on guest appearances (changes and cancellations are possible).
