The State of Church

Arguing for and against change

Fr. Farley is an old hand at clergying. He believes that there's no point in riling people up — give 'em what they want in a comforting sermon, and then see 'em all again next Sunday. Young seminarian Mark Dolson believes that a good priest has to enact change, even if the parishioners don't want it; confront them, challenge them, throw the injustice of the world in their faces and dare them to remain silent. Bill C. Davis' two-man show Mass Appeal is the eternal story of how the young perceive the older generation, but it also deals with questions of faith and how you can have a passion for your calling even if you're not demonstrably passionate about it. The Midnight Company presents Mass Appeal at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (November 6 through 15) at Christ Church Cathedral (1210 Locust Street; 314-487-5305 or www.midnightcompany.com). Tickets are $10 to $15.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 6. Continues through Nov. 15, 2008
