Old vs. Blue

Le bleu-blanc-et-rouge vs. les bleus

The Montreal Canadiens is hockey's most storied franchise. The team has earned the most Stanley Cups (24 and counting), retired fourteen players' numbers and, as of this season, competed for 100 years. The Canadiens actually predate the formation of the NHL itself, winning their first Cup a year before the league came together — that's how much hockey means to Montreal and generations of Québécois. Greatest team ever? Probably. For the true fans of the sport, this evening's 5 p.m. game between the Canadiens and the resurgent St. Louis Blues at the Scottrade Center (1401 Clark Avenue; www.scottradecenter.com or 314-241-1888) is one that should not be missed. The Canadiens have history and the sweetest sweaters in the league (sadly, St. Louis won't see any of the historical throwbacks the Canadiens are sporting at some games this year) on their side, and the Blues have a hard-skating style and the none-too-shabby Blue Note in their favor. It should be a good game. Tickets are $18 to $215.
