One usually does not utter the word "slinger" on the respectable side of midnight, but the folks at Boots Contemporary Art Space, the smallish gallery tucked into a former shoe-repair shop at 2307 Cherokee Street (314-772-2668 or www.bootsart.com), dare to not only speaketh the name of the eggs-chili-etc. belly bomb, but to name an annual show after the diner menu item. Slinger 2 focuses on visual art being made currently in St. Louis, and the exhibition features work by seven local artists — Gina Alvarez, Michael Behle (that's his The Communicative Power of the King pictured) and Elizabeth Ferry among them. Cole Root from the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis stepped in to guest-curate the show, which opens Friday, November 14, with a reception from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The works remain up through Sunday, December 21, and Boots is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.
