If Cementland, the post-industrial park built by City Museum mastermind Bob Cassilly, seems like an unusual spot for a rock show, keep in mind that Japanther is not an average rock band. The prolific Brooklyn duo has a history of bringing its playful blend of explosive noise rock and performance art into odd settings: The band once provided the soundtrack to a synchronized swimming exhibition and has played outdoors in the rain under a giant tarp. Japanther's newest LP, Tut Tut Now Shake Ya Butt, is a curious mix of speedy punk songs and spoken-word poetry, proving that the anything-goes attitude present in the group's live shows (which often include a telephone headset that acts as a distorted microphone) permeates its recorded output as well.
