A Movable Feast

Fueled by gravy and goodwill

The holiday season is in full swing, and with it comes the temptation of overeating: Remember, it's not a good idea to eat the pumpkin-pie filling directly from the can. Looks like it's time to do a preemptive strike on those calories, and what better way to do it than from the comfort of your bicycle? South city bike shop BicycleWORKS (4102 Shenandoah Avenue) has you covered with its third annual Cranksgiving, an event that benefits a good cause while getting riders in shape. Cyclists are encouraged to purchase between $5 and $20 worth of non-perishable groceries from participating stores along either the 5- or 25-mile route, then return to BicycleWORKS and donate the edibles to Food Outreach. Cash donations will be accepted in lieu of food items, if you'd rather not ride with any additional weight. Departure time is noon, and participants are expected back from the longer route by 3:30 p.m. For more information visit www.stlbikeworks.com or call 314-664-0828.
