So Many Concerts

So many more stories

In 1968 Steve Schankman and Irv Zuckerman began their decades-long partnership in the concert industry. The first major rock show the pair ever booked and produced was the Grateful Dead at the Fox Theatre in 1969. Forty years later, Schankman continues to craft memorable events with his company, Contemporary Productions. In the new book Produced by Contemporary: A Celebration of 40 Years Producing Stellar Concerts and Spectacular Events, Schankman and writer Dick Richmond tell the story of Contemporary through its many highlights, from the Rolling Stones' 1978 show to Pope John Paul II's 1999 visit. The book offers a tour through St. Louis' rock history courtesy of one of its prime movers, and the concert photographs and behind-the-scenes stories will make any music geek salivate. Schankman and Richmond will discuss the book tonight at 7 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue). The event is free; for more information call 314-746-4599 or visit www.mohistory.org.
