Yes

8 p.m. Tuesday, December 2. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

In the Yes masterpiece "Close to the Edge," Jon Anderson simply describes life's dual nature: "I get up, I get down." With Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman recently sidelined due to health problems, Yes may seem down. Fortunately, Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White are up and out, potentially aware that the prog-rock juggernaut may be next in line for a Great Hipster Resurgence. If the band's multifaceted compositions, inventive synths and saucy guitar noodles seemed futuristic 30 years ago, the group's collective mirror ball may have just been looking into 2009. These days, Black Mountain is aping "Heart of the Sunrise," Deerhoof is catching up on the driving riffs of "Roundabout," and it's only a matter of time before Kanye West samples the sledgehammer bass line of "Close to the Edge." Hell, even the über-cheesy "Owner of a Lonely Heart" sounds like a carrot on a string for Coldplay's recent pop-prog ambitions.
