Cusslers and Pitts get down to business

Fans of hard-charging, escapist fiction are familiar with Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt series. Pitt and his right-hand man Al Giordino travel the world solving earth-shattering capers on a grand scale, usually with the help of a classic car and some high-tech gizmos. And is there a sexy broad involved? Yes, sir, there often is. Cussler and his real-life son Dirk cowrote Arctic Drift, the latest book in the Pitt series, and they visit Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) at 7 p.m. this evening to discuss it and sign copies. Arctic Drift features Dirk (fictional Dirk) teaming up with kids Dirk Jr. and Summer on a mission that involves the quest for the Northwest Passage and the very real threat of global warming. Will this volume's car be a snowmobile? Only one way to find out. Admission is free, and copies of Arctic Drift will be available for purchase.
