The post-Thanksgiving advertising surge would have you believe that when it comes to holiday gifts, the mall has it all. Not so. If you'd like to find a more perfect something for that perfect someone, perhaps you need to broaden your gift search to the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.contemporarystl.org). Tonight, the Contemporary hosts its Holiday Open House and Shop Sale, which means free admission (admittedly, the mall also has this) and access to the hip and idiosyncratic gift shop, home to a singularly excellent selection of books on the topic of modern art. Want a Nara monograph for your flying-dog-obsessed girlfriend? This is the place. As an additional incentive, the Contemporary offers hot chocolate, eggnog (the hard stuff) and treats for shoppers. And then there's the décor, which is currently the Lutz Bacher and Aïda Ruilova exhibitions. The open house lasts from 6 to 8 p.m., so don't be late — you don't want to miss out on the nog.
