Scott Weiland / Eagles of Death Metal / Cold War Kids

8 p.m. Wednesday, December 17. The Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard.

Despite the fact that all three acts happen to hail from Southern California, this diverse triple bill is somewhat unlikely. Show headliner Scott Weiland will be showcasing songs from his latest solo effort, "Happy" in Galoshes, an album whose songs range from hazy pop delusions ("Paralysis") to '70s glam with a modern-rock-radio sheen ("Missing Cleveland"). As if to emphasize that Galoshes is very Bowie-inspired, Weiland pays homage to him directly with a glossy, drum-machine-driven cover of "Fame." Cold War Kids' extensive touring and prolific output of recorded material since 2005 — along with some seriously danceable pop — have propelled it from an indie-rock obscurity to a commercial radio darling in the past year. Its latest album, Loyalty to Loyalty, is packed with infectious beats and bouncy basslines that perfectly support vocalist Nathan Willett's urgent, throat-straining chants. Eagles of Death Metal's set should be as high-energy as ever; its new album, Heart On, finds Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes moving in a slightly more soulful and funky direction. Channeling the spirit of Sly and the Family Stone nevertheless fits the band's established personality and doesn't sound forced.
