The Faint have been churning out dystopian robot music since the dawn of electroclash and the trend toward vocoders in R&B. The group's epileptic beats and magnetic synthpop hooks have inspired many a disaffected hipster to bust into fits of herky-jerky dancing. The Omaha band's fifth album, Fasciination, is its first self-released effort, but Todd Fink and company are still obsessed with icy industrial sounds, even as they've embraced a circuit-bent sensibility that clutters each track with a hundred blip-bloop permutations.
