Bun B/Orgone

10 p.m. Thursday, December 18. Old Rock House, 1200 South 7th Street.

Bun B (a.k.a. half of the famed duo UGK) is a hip-hop archetype. With an official discography that began in 1992 with UGK's seminal Too Hard To Swallow LP and extends to his 2008 solo full-length II Trill, Bun's influence is all over rap's biggest names — from the astounding (Lil Wayne) and alternative (Little Brother) to the exhausted (Lil' Kim). His languid flow, which has been honed to a crisp, efficient rat-a-tat through almost three decades of performances, continues to capture the South's grit — and when paired with the funky punch of his live band, California's Afrobeat practitioners Orgone, the King of the Trill's cadences are near perfect. The only thing that could make this show more enjoyable is if it were free. Oh, wait...
