It's Cool When It's Cool

Chet Baker-style

When the Birth of the Cool: California Art, Design and Culture at Mid-Century art exhibit opened at Washington University's Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum (Forsyth and Skinker boulevards) back in September, gallery-goers were promised months of related programming, including a film series, lectures and concerts — and they got them all. Now, as the exhibition wraps up (it closes on Monday, January 5), folks have a most excellent opportunity to not only have one last gander at the show before it comes down, but they can do so at the final installment of the free Birth of the Cool Jazz Series. From 4 to 6 p.m., the Randy Holmes Trio jazzes it up with tunes by Chet Baker, right there in the museum, and refreshments will be served. To learn more about the afternoon, call 314-935-4523 or visit www.kemperartmuseum.wustl.edu.
