In Saskatchewan during the 1940s (we've known each other that long), New Year's Day meant only one thing for Mr. Night and us: hockey on the nearest frozen pond. Down in the lower 48, though, we prefer more sedate ice time on holidays, which is why we'll see you at the Webster Groves Ice Arena (33 East Glendale Avenue, Webster Groves). The rink is offering two public-skating sessions today, from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Fees are only $3 for nonresidents ages four and older, and skate rental's a measly $2. It ain't hockey, Pierre, but it's good cheap fun for all ages and fitness levels.
