A quick glance at Euforquestra's bio is enough to raise both eyebrows in suspicion: It's a worldbeat ensemble made up of seven white dudes from that hacky-sack/microbrew enclave known as Fort Collins, Colorado. But set aside your skepticism until you hear the music. Like many bands, Euforquestra found its way into Afrobeat music through a shared love of the Talking Heads. Accordingly, the septet fuses its scholarship of African, Caribbean and Latin rhythms with old-fashioned jam-band instrumental interplay, and uses a pair of harmonically interlocked saxophones to guide the songs. Unsurprisingly, that style of eclectic fusion has made the band popular with festival audiences and has won the group the blessing of members of Phish and the Funky Meters.
