The year 2008? Good riddance! The past twelve months have seen the economy fall into the crapper, the St. Louis police department plagued by allegations of corruption and our sports teams dissolve into laughingstocks of their respective leagues.

Ordinarily we'd drink these troubles away, but even the local brew doesn't taste the same — not after a foreign firm swooped in last year to buy our beloved Anheuser-Busch.

There is one tiny bright side to the dire headlines of 2008: They're grist for the annual Unreal News Challenge!

You know the drill: We provide the questions. You determine the right from the wrong and send your answers lickety-split to Riverfront Times. One lucky winner will receive a holiday gift basket of swag and assorted giveaways culled from the RFT office.

OFFICIAL RULES: There are no rules. (Except one: You'll have to arrange to come to the RFT offices in person to claim your prize.) (Make that two: Only one entry per household.) (Oh, and... you have to supply a real name and email address where we can reach you in the unlikely event you win something.)

(Oh yeah, and... in the event of a tie, we'll come up with something. And, you know... void where prohibited and all that.)

We'll publish an answer key in a week or so.

And now, without further ado, click this link to let the quiz-takin' begin!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Quiz-takin'time's up -- though you can still click right on along and go through the motions -- and we have a winner. Click this link for the answer key, the victor's name and what he won!
