Love, Iranian Style
Marjan and Alex Tehrani were just toddlers when the Islamic Revolution engulfed Iran. But even though the U.S.-born siblings never lived in their parents' homeland, they experienced strong prejudice from neighbors and classmates. Years later, when Alex fell in love with and proposed to an American woman, those old prejudices resurfaced. Alex's fiancée, Heather, comes from an ultra-conservative family who balked at the couple's plan to travel to Iran for a traditional Persian wedding. What's more, Alex and Heather would be marrying at the height of the U.S. invasion into Iraq — making travel dangerous and visas hard to secure. Marjan Tehrani chronicled her brother's experiences in the documentary Arusi Persian Wedding, which is being shown at 7 p.m. tonight at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue). This free screening is followed by a panel discussion.
