Tony Fitzpatrick is the model Chicago artist: A big, imposing man, Fitzpatrick's resume includes work as a boxer, bouncer, tattooist, poet and actor, but he is renowned the world over for his work as a printmaker. This Thursday, a bit of the Windy City blows into St. Louis when Gallery 210 presents The City Etchings 1993-2003, a collection of Fitzpatrick's work that offers a glimpse beneath the veneer of our northeastern neighbors. Fitzpatrick's etchings are intricate, bazooka-joe nightmares, surreal images populated with Chicago Bulls, dirty White Sox and grimy pigeons. Taken together, they form a haunting narrative that bottles the broad-shouldered spirit of Chicago. The City Etchings 1993-2003 opens with a free public reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 12, at Gallery 210 on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road).
