Something about Al Jarreau's voice has always been hard to pin down. His nimble jazz phrasing isn't built for soul music, and his scat-inflected delivery is a little too nuanced for pop. Such singularity has allowed him to carve out a little niche in the space between jazz and R&B, a space where he still walks tall. Best remembered for his hit "We're in This Love Together" (as well as the theme song from the Bruce Willis/Cybill Shepherd show Moonlighting), Jarreau has kept busy the past few years. In 2006 he collaborated with fellow jazz crossover star George Benson for Givin' It Up, and last year he released his first Christmas album and Love Songs, a compilation of his biggest hits.
