Hostage Juliet/Martin Bisi

Hostage Juliet's MySpace page cheekily describes the band as "Chigaze." But this descriptor perfectly sums up the Chicago (ah!) shoegaze (ha!) band's penchant for reverb revelries and distortion dust storms. Sounding like Lush performing in a wind tunnel or Curve trudging through molasses — mostly thanks to foggy tempos and Zeeshan Abbasi's beyond-the-grave, Victorian-era-regal vocals — Hostage Juliet views the underground genre through a smudged lens. Also on the bill is Martin Bisi, the man who produced nearly every important or influential New York City musician since the early '80s. (Seriously — his c.v. includes Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Bill Laswell, Material, Cop Shoot Cop and Boss Hog, and that's just for starters.) Bisi's performance is in support of his own 2008 album, Sirens of the Apocalypse.
