Lost in the clouds
Here in the fast-paced twenty-first century, packed with holograms and digitally enhanced marvels, the humble circus not only still exists, it thrives. Cirque du Soleil, Circus Flora, the Everyday Circus — these groups honoring the ancient entertainment not only survive, they thrive. But that's the enigmatic power of the circus: You go to it with a sense of disbelief, and then once the show starts you're swept away and realize that anything is possible. And so it is with Cirque Éloize and its show Nebbia, created in conjunction with Teatro Sunil. The show — the title is the Italian word for "fog" — takes as its inspiration the mysterious and half-imaginary world created when a thick fog swaddles the world in billowy mufti. Nebbia combines acrobats, music and dance to tap into that strange realm where the familiar is strange and nothing is quite as it seems. Cirque Éloize takes you into the fog twice, at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (March 7 and 8) at Lindenwood University's J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts (2300 West Clay Street; 636-949-4433 or www.lindenwood.edu/center). Tickets are $20 to $45.
