As a kid, Thomas Wesley Pentz was fascinated by dinosaurs and hoped to someday uncover their fossils. Yet while the Mississippi-born, Florida-raised, Philly-based DJ and producer did take his stage name from a certain long-necked "terrible lizard," Diplo ended up being a crate digger, rather than a paleontologist. That decision won him international attention — both for his genre-mashing, border-bashing "Hollertronix" club nights in Philadelphia with DJ Low Budget, and for a solo career that's produced several acclaimed mixtapes and seen him introduce the Brazilian, booty-bass influenced "funk carioca" to America, via his label, Mad Decent.
