Even the most die-hard Tolkien fans will admit that the Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings series is a bit overlong. The Magic Smoking Monkey Theatre has concocted a solution to the length: The One-Hour Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Live! Here's hoping the 60-minute show will find time to explore the homoerotic subtext of Frodo and Sam's relationship, but still have time to give the dwarf Gimli his due as dutch uncle par excellance. Showtimes for the parody are 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (April 24 through May 9). Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students 18 and younger, and the performances will be staged at the Regional Arts Commission Studio Theatre (6128 Delmar Boulevard, University City). Tickets are available through Metrotix at 314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com. Be advised that MSMT has a devoted following, and shows often sell out, so advance purchase is recommended.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: April 24. Continues through May 9, 2009
