Consider the preconceived notions and past memories you might have about Target Market, and then forget them all. In the past year or so, the Edwardsville quartet has evolved into a formidable live act whose Pavement-esque askew tones, fuzz-coated riffs and taut rhythms compare with any nationally buzzed-about band. (For comparison, think a choirboy version of Guided by Voices or a corn-fed Built to Spill.) Target Market's forthcoming LP, Up On the Moon — which is due out online May 5 and in stores in June — tones down the manic Pixies blurts of 2006's No Thrills, in favor of smoothed-over, nuanced keyboard-pop.
