White Rabbits

8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

Anything you can do, White Rabbits can do better. The band's stunning debut, Fort Nightly, earned comparisons to (and helped it tour with) the Walkmen. But Nightly's flat-out jam, "The Plot," took the formula for the latter's song "The Rat" — a propulsive beat, sparkling guitars and a triumphant chorus — and expanded upon it with a hook massive enough for the Rabbits' forebears to hang their hats on in defeat. The Brooklyn-via-Columbia, Missouri, six-man wrecking crew returned with the Britt Daniels-produced It's Frightening, which fulfills Nightly's promise. The title of the LP's lead single, "Percussion Gun," couldn't be more fitting — with drums blazing, the band practically uses its surplus of both style and substance as a weapon, leaving a trail of inferior buzz bands in its wake.
