Sugarland

7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11. The Scottrade Center, 1401 Clark Avenue.

Sugarland took Nashville by storm with the release of its 2004 debut album, Twice the Speed of Life, and has been a constant presence on the country-music charts ever since. But even though Jennifer Nettles is playing up her Southern accent more than she was back in the duo's folk-rock days — she fronted the Jennifer Nettles Band, while partner Kristian Bush was in Billy Pilgrim — Sugarland's brand of pop-country doesn't possess much tradition. Singles such as "It Happens" and "Already Gone," from its latest album, Love on the Inside, feature gritty rock organ and effects-laden electric guitars in lieu of twangy pedal steel or fiddle. Still, for all that Sugarland borrows from its pop and rock peers, it has an abundance of the heart and down-home feelings usually seen in traditional country acts.
