The scavenger hunts of our youth were fine enough, but these day-camp searches usually involved tracking down twigs, leaves and other natural elements, all under the watchful eye of our camp leaders. In other words those hunts were bo-o-ring. The Amazing Challenge events hosted by the Saint Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue; www.slsc.org) on various Saturdays (June 20, September 5, October 3 and November 7) are anything but. During these seek-and-find missions, teams of two pay $80 and travel around our fair city via Metro (buses and trains) to solve clues and complete tasks. Prizes are bestowed upon the team that finishes first, but all players are awarded the benefit of gaining additional knowledge about St. Louis and our public-transportation system. The all-day challenge begins at the science center at 9 a.m. and finishes up there around 5:30 p.m.; the participation fee includes lunch, dinner, water, snack and souvenirs. Call 314-289-4424 to register your team — and happy hunting!
