Who Built This City?

Through our car windows, we tend to not notice our surroundings, and that might be a good thing — there are already enough accidents on the roads! But, of course, this inattention to our city doesn't mean that the buildings around us aren't important, historical and beautiful. To get a new view and learn a little something, meet up with the Young Friends of the Saint Louis Art Museum (and their friends) at the Philip Slein Gallery (1319 Washington Avenue). There, you all will be treated to a talk about art-collecting, and post-discussion the group will head out on the town, via trolley, for the Young Friends Art and Architecture Tour. By peering through the trolley's windows, you will see the cityscape in a whole new way, and you will even get to check out the home base from which Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Inc. works to preserve our architectural heritage. The eye-opening evening of learning and fun runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and tickets cost $35 in advance (at 314-655-5416 or www.slam.org/youngfriends) and $40 at the door; eats and drinks are included.
