Plushgun/Nightmare of You8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.By Annie ZaleskiPublished on June 23, 2009 at 12:10pmHad Plushgun existed 25 years ago, one suspects John Hughes would have found every excuse to put the band's sensitive-artist synthpop in his films. The Brooklyn trio's new LP, Pins & Panzers, mixes the fragile keyboards of Depeche Mode with the processed programming of modern-rock faves like Hellogoodbye; highlights include the danceable pop nuggets "Just Polite" and "How We Roll." Fellow '80s-rock-lovers Nightmare of You are the Duckie to Plushgun's Andie. Fronted by ex-Movielife member Brandon Reilly, the gothy band takes heavy cues from the dreampop-and-rockabilly affectations of the Smiths. Expect more of the same on NOY's upcoming August 4 release, Infomaniac.
