Fifth Time's A Charm

For all the simple joys the game of baseball provides — game-winning home runs, split-finger fastballs, on-field acrobatics — it's the sport's ephemera that gets fans clamoring. If you've ever seen a section of patrons pounce on a foul ball, you know how fervent some fans can be. The Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org) taps into this fervor (and the excitement surrounding this week's All-Star Game) with an All-Star Memorabilia Display featuring items from the four previous All-Star Games played in St. Louis (1940, 1948, 1957 and 1966). These historical objects are on loan from the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum, and the display includes a special section on Stan Musial. Let's just hope they saved room for the Brockabrella, the Lou Brock-endorsed umbrella-hat. Also appearing as part of the museum's baseball exhibition are author Jerome Mileur (who has written about the 1942 Cardinals squad in his book, High-Flying Birds) and Jackie Robinson expert Dan Rosen. The events begin at 1 p.m., and entrance to the museum is free.
