Looky Here

There is not, to our knowledge, an artistic census of the city that would delineate exactly how many working artists there are in the metro area. But there is a pretty efficient barometer of this population: The City-Wide Open Studios Weekend. Yes, it’s only Tuesday, and a bit early for “weekend” status; the CWOSW takes place Saturday and Sunday (July 25 and 26). The Open Studio Preview Party from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. this evening at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or openstudiosonline.org) is a sneak-peek at the barometer, as participating CWOSW artists have example -- and exemplary -- work hanging at the Contemporary. You’ll mingle with other art lovers, hobnob with the artists, and perhaps begin formulating a course for this weekend’s tour based on what you see; you don’t want to miss seeing Jeremy Rabus’ soaring abstracts (he’s in Tower Grove West) or Cameron Fuller’s totemic animal drawings (Tower Grove South), after all. Admission is free, and maps showing the location of all participating artists will be available as well.
