Charity Begins at DinnerBy Paul FriswoldPublished on July 28, 2009 at 4:40amSo, what's for dinner? It's the eternal question, especially if you're like some people and eat two dinners nightly (I'm a big fat dude, folks). The answer is a searing conundrum — anything could be for dinner, but you don't have anything in mind. Zen koan if there ever was one. But there's a way to take the guesswork out of your knife-and-fork work, at least for seven days: The Downtown St. Louis Restaurant Week. This Monday through Sunday (August 3 through 9), 25 participating restaurants offer a fixed, three-course dinner for $25, plus tax and tip. The choice of what to eat is reduced now to where to eat. Kitchen K, perhaps, or Charlie Gitto's? The Dubliner's on that list, as are Mosaic and the ever-popular Mike Shannon's. Check out the full list of participants, and the menus each will offer, at www.downtownrestaurantweek.net. And please consider the "extra helping" donation option — you'll pay an additional $5, but the money goes to Operation Food Search, so somebody else will enjoy a dinner as well.
