Just Tap It In

With its tight precision and percussive, rhythmic feel, tap dance has structure in spades, but even within those confines, there is much room for individualism, embellishment, improvisation and, well, fun. All That Tap XVIII, presented by the Robert L. Reed Tap Heritage Institute, showcases tap dancing and all of its glorious diversity at 7 p.m. at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org). At this concert expect to tap your toes at your seat while watching some of the greats of the form: Karen Callaway Williams, a Riverdance performer, and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, who has partnered with Savion Glover, both dance in the showcase, as do Israeli Hoofers Avi Miller and Ofer Ben, local tap star Logan Miller, current Rockette Denise Caston and many other talents. Tickets to catch the show cost $15 to $25; for more information about All That Tap XVIII, call the institute at 314-531-8277 or visit www.tapheritage.org.
