Wonder As She Wanders

Alice in Wonderland is one of the strangest children's stories ever. And we're not talking Dr. Seuss strange. We're thinking Hansel and Gretel, Coraline strange, one where a sense of danger is ever-present, and fear lurks in almost every shadow. Of course, this dark side is what makes these kinds of stories resonate. Everything isn't always happy and right with the world, and a rousing chorus of "The Unbirthday Song" can be just the thing to brighten up your spirits when you fall down your own rabbit hole of life. To chase after the White Rabbit with Alice and visit with the Queen of Hearts and the Caterpillar, head to the Robert G. Reim Theatre at the Kirkwood Community Center (111 South Geyer Road), where Stages St. Louis puts on a 55-minute version of the Lewis Carroll tales. The musical is performed at 11 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday (August 5 through 16), and tickets cost $16 (at 314-821-2407 or www.stagesstlouis.org).
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 5. Continues through Aug. 16, 2009
